Stu Apte Fly Tournament

We have six teams competing for the coveted Golden Sailfish Award presented to the top team.

Anglers have traveled from across the country to compete against each other and the the world renowned, IGFA hall of famer Capt. Stu Apte. "I love Casa Vieja Lodge and there’s no better place on the planet I would rather fish this tournament," said Stu. Competing this year is the entire Casa Vieja Fleet: Makaira, Rum Line, Intensity, Release, Captain Hook and Spindrift.

Pre-fishing day for the Stu Apte Fly Tournament (23) has the Casa Vieja fleet boats out today:

• Dr. Jon Dee and Russ Texeira on the Release raised 13 and released 3
• Darin and Dino Colucci on the Intensity raised 20 and released 6
• Mick Kolassa and Bill Little on the Rum Line raised 8, released 1 and raised one marlin
• Stu Apte and Jeff Harkavy on the Makaira raised 8, released 1, and had one marlin bite
• Drs. Stephen Christensen and Michael Kish on the Spindrift raised 10 and released 1

The Stu Apte Fly Tournament got underway yesterday (24 Jan) with six boats participating.

* The first fish caught and released was by Stu Apte on the Makaira.
* Drs. Howington & Ochsner on the Captain Hook released 4 fish topping the leader board.
* Stu and team mate Jeff Harkavy finished the day in 2nd place with 3 fish

Islamorada Wahoo, sails and nice kingfish

We had another nice day fishing with the live speedos down here in Islamorada. We wound up with 2 sails a bunch of nice kings and a beautiful wahoo that went 49# back at the dock. We’ve been slow trolling the live speedos outside the reef in 90 to 120 feet of water and it’s been pretty good action with a fast paced bite on the kingfish most days and a nice mixed bag of sails and wahoo as well. There’s also been some nice mutton snapper and yellowtails just outside the reef down here.

Miami Mutton Report 1/21/12

Today’s trip was slow at first, the tide was dead we fished 55 feet, At first and the speedo shoed up and I was able to catch one, before they disappeared to never come back, So we went to 150 feet did some drifting without any bites so, we went back to the 55 feet, then we started, picking at the 15. in average size tails, then the bite quit and we went to 90 feet where we started catching big tails back to back and lost 3 nice bottom bites, It wasn’t until 1pm that the tide picked up and we able to catch nice fish, The seas started as 2 to 3 footers and dropped to one foot by the time we left. Tight lines to all, for more search miamimuttonman

I’m done—quit– can’t take it any more

Worst duck season of my life. It went from a passion to a mission this year. Don’t kept track of the number of days I hunted, but it was a bunch— 40ish. Seems I’m a glutten for failure— chasin the White Marlins when they shoot staright up to OC, going after the Bluefins for not but remembering years past when you chummed a mess by 10:00 and till you couldn’t take it any more in the 90′s— last two years when a limit was expected on the ducks—-

GD, I love the outdoors.

Did get a Pintail with an 8.5" Sprig today——- tomorrow will be the day we get a push of birds— I can feel it—— and that 800 lb slob BM is waiting on me for the Big Rock:trophy:
